Checking in

Time gets away from one. I've been spending a lot of it at Farcaster. I followed a fellow Pagan there because I liked her writing and that's where she was at. That has developed into an artistic collaboration that I'll post a link to here when it's launched. I'm excited.

Bridget was finally healthy enough to get her cyst removal surgery done yesterday. She's now unhappily wearing the cone of shame because she keeps licking her wounds even through the onesies. She's doing well though.

I hope you're all enjoying the spring. The season hasn't quite made up its mind that it wants to stick around in my neck of the woods.

comments

Arts and crafts and such

Craft therapy update: As per my usual MO, I'm working on several projects at once. I'm getting so close to finishing the Sherlock Holmes blanket, but I took a break to start a basic black infinity scarf from my favorite pattern. I wore the previous one I made to death, and I don't like to be without my basic black accessories ;).

I tried gel plate printing for the first time a week or so ago. I have a lot to learn, but it was fun to experiment with, and I think the results will make good collage papers or backgrounds for mixed media.

I made some rustic-looking rune and other Pagan and Heathen symbol ornaments for my shop using colored pencil on wood slices. Below is the one for the Fehu (money, increase) rune.

I have some flat reed left over that I bought for a Brigid's Cross that I made years ago. My goal is to make some small ornaments with that, but I don't know if I'll get to that until January.

I made a small, lined, crocheted bag for a relative and added a carabiner in case she wanted to clip it on a belt or something else.

Supposedly, we're going to get a light snowfall today. Bridget will be ecstatic.

comments

Car and Fannish Fifty 21

The car is finally done. J just left to pick it up. Thankfully, the dealer gave him a loaner for the week, so he was able to go to work. I was scheduled today to also use our car to take mom to the food pantry. I didn't want to drive the loaner (and J didn't want me to) since my name isn't on the paperwork, and J kindly drove us to her appointment. Just before the dealer told him his car was done, he got a call from the sales department and they asked him if he was interested in a new vehicle. We have a Forester and they lent him an Outback. He was complaining about it all week. His answer was no. That's not the only reason. We'd really like to go until at least late next year without car payments just so we can breathe for a little while—to catch a break, you know.

I love the gloomy weather. It's been warm though for October. It hit 70 degrees today.

Wow, I'm only at #21 of the Fannish Fifty Challenge. Here goes. I've been a fan of artist Jane Davies for several years and her improvisational approach. I've done this with small collage pieces, but I'm inspired by this video to dig out some acrylic paint and pens this weekend. She demonstrates how she did these "quickies" below. I love her attitude way of getting past the inner critic and just doing it.

comments
