Good Yule

I hope you're enjoying Yule season if you celebrate or having a good winter if you don't. There's a tiny bit of snow on the ground here.

Bridget had her cyst removal surgery and promptly burst her stitches. But it's been a couple weeks now and she's finally healing. She'll be so happy to not have to wear the cone of shame any more.

December is usually slow for work but not this year. That's a good thing.

comments

8.14.24

I recently had a weight check appointment with my doc, and I'm down 11 pounds. That's with changing habits and the help of medication. Not the wildly popular, apparently, Ozempic. My insurance won't pay for that. Contrave has helped with addictive behavior. In my 54 years, I've never experienced being able to walk past chocolate and think, "Meh." I didn't know that was normal. Is that normal?

Unfortunately, the local Rite-Aid pharmacy that was only charging me $20 a month closed, and the Kroger in town charges $200, which isn't doable for me. Kroger couldn't explain the insane difference. I price shopped and it's similar at other places. Apparently, doctors are working around this by prescribing the two drugs Contrave is comprised of seperately. I'm going to try this and hope it works as well. I'm at least grateful that I have a doctor that's open to medication treatment instead of treating me like I'm lazy, which was a thing in the past.

One of my contracts invited me to do beta testing utilizing their new software to do reports. It's going well.

I'm trying to spend less time in social media spaces that I feel are soul sucking but at the same time keep commitments that I made. Burnout seems to be dogging me or maybe it's just one of those weeks.

comments

3-6-23

I'm having my usual perfection stress with work, but other than that, the new job is going well. I've been better lately about snapping out of it and stopping to breathe and slow down.

I'm eating healthier with more consistency. The hardest habit to break right now is sugary pop (or soda if you prefer). I know hubs isn't going to stop buying it (I've asked), so I just have to have my own willpower not to grab it from the fridge. He's diabetic, so I'm not just thinking of me. Anyway, I bought some soda flavoring that I tried in seltzer water that I sweetened with stevia, and it wasn't terrible. That and drinking more water might help me break the soda habit. Continuing to eat well and moving more are my next goals.

I'll forever be an independent voter, but it's difficult watching someone go in the direction of Ben Shapiro/Steven Crowder/Jordan Peterson types or worse.

I'm testing candles again for my Etsy shop. I may have finally mastered the ratios for one scent that's been eluding me.

We got a few inches of snow a couple of days ago. Bridget was a very happy pup.

comments

Fruitcake

I made fruitcake today for us and stored it in brandy-soaked cheesecloth overwrapped in foil in the fridge. I'll make mom's nonalcoholic version next week. I'll store them for at least two weeks before slicing and eating. I haven't done that in years.

I still had plenty of work over the holiday thankfully. Transcription can be touch and go at the holidays, so I'm grateful for being busy.

comments
