Fannish Fifty 10: RIP Gordon Lightfoot
May. 12th, 2023 07:55 amFannish Fifty 10: I missed the announcement of Canadian singer-songwriter/musician extraordinaire Gordon Lightfoot because my uncle passed the day before. My uncle was a self-taught musician and played in local bands in the '70s and '80s. If he were alive, he would surely be posting videos on Facebook paying tribute to Lightfoot with guitar in hand as well as playing live in Hines Park in the Metro Detroit area where he loved to share his love of music with new and old friends.
Lightfoot's song, The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, seemed like it was on the radio nonstop in the '70s, but I also heard it played live many times in my grandmother's living room. RIP to the bard, Gordon Lightfoot. Thank you, uncle John, for inspiring an appreciation of this immensely talented artist.

While this was one of his best known songs, he was incredibly prolific. Here's a link to a listing of his work.
