I was listening to the podcast Mary Versus the Movies where *Mary and her husband, Dennis, watch and then dish on the '80s flicks she missed when they first came out. This episode was about one of the most cheesy of the cheesy James Bond films, Octopussy. But this post isn't about that. In the course of discussing Bond themes, Mary and Dennis mentioned a German film called Wings of Desire. I honestly can't remember how they got from one topic to the other. But Wings of Desire is set in a still divided Berlin. Two angels observe and listen to the inner dialogue of the inhabitants of the city offering what solace they can. Peter Falk portrays an actor visiting the city to make a movie about its Nazi past. He's also a former angel who chose to be mortal to experience the world. In the scene below, he tries to convince one of the two angels to become human.
There are many fascinating clips on YouTube, but this one convinced me to check the film out of the library. I'm looking forward to seeing it. I'm filing this post under the Fannish Fifty title because even though I haven't seen the film yet, come on, it's Peter Falk!
